Through our ARF (Animal Relief Fund) program, OC Animal Allies may provide financial assistance to low-income Orange County pet owners, such as the elderly and disabled whose pets need emergency veterinary care.
Financial assistance is only for emergency, critical care (typically life-threatening) pets of low-income, Orange County, California residents. If you qualify for a pledge to pay for vet care, it is a contribution towards the cost of treatment.
There are 4 steps that must be completed in order to receive financial assistance for emergency vet care:
Get an Estimate from Your Vet
It is important to know how much care will cost. OC Animal Allies is unable to reimburse you if a bill has already been paid, if there is an outstanding balance, or if a veterinarian has already started treatment. If you need a referral to a low cost veterinarian for an estimate, please see our Additonal Resources page. Please note: your vet will need to fax or email the estimate to us BEFORE care is provided.
Apply for Care Credit
It is important you try to secure a payment plan for your vet care. You may apply at http://www.carecredit.com/apply/, or you may call Care Credit at 800.677.0718 (callers must be at least 21 years of age). We recommend that you request at least double the vet estimate amount. If you are denied, you must provide us with the application key/reference/denial code.
Ask 5 Additional Organizations for Aid
We require that you ask that you contact at least five other organizations and seek help from them. Because most organizations will only make small pledges ranging from $50-$200, we recommend that you ask friends and family for help as well through sites like GoFundMe. Local organizations you can reach out to are: RUFF, Animal Assistance League of Orange County, Saddleback Valley Humane Society, The Ozzy Foundation and Voice For The Animals Foundation. Make sure to always answer your phone so that you do not miss out on donations. Keep a notebook or notepad with you during this process so that you can keep track of which groups you contacted and what other documents they may need from you.
Submit an OC Animal Allies Application
If you have completed Steps 2 and 3 and are still having financial trouble securing money for your vet estimate from Step 1, you may submit an application for OC Animal Allies to help. Remember, your vet will need to fax or email the estimate to us BEFORE care is provided. You may also download the application and fax or email it to us, but online is the fastest and easiest way to get the application completed.
Once we receive all the information required, including your application, we will contact you via phone or email to let you know if we are able to pledge towards your pet’s treatment.
